Welcome to Year 5. We have three classes in this year group.
The Year 5 staff team are: Yatin Solanki (lead), Christian Rankin/Ellie Light, Laurence Wolahan.
We enter a world of myths and legends by investigating Icarus from Greek mythology. We use a variety of materials including feathers, wax and Modrock to create Greek masks giving us a clear understanding of the effect of Icarus’s wings from the sun. Other myths and legends investigated include Aesop’s Fables and Greek soldiers. Our classroom scientific experiments focused on electricity, it’s effect and production.
We fly across the world to Africa, to experience a different continent with a variety of different countries, timeframes, cultures and religions. We explore the life of Nelson Mandela and his fight to tackle racism back in the nineties.
Our scientific experiments take us to a live dissection of the heart so we appreciate the importance and role it plays in our body.
In RE our focus is Sikhism, we learn to understand the key principles, importance of Guru Nanak and the place of worship Gurdwara, we compare and contrast this to other faiths.
